Tiny Step: Recreate Art From Museum
You’ve probably been to the museum(s) in your city already. But have you visited it with an idea of creating a big life by boosting your creativity?
This tiny steps towards a big life can be created into a recurring event. By creating recurring events you will bring structure to your life and find a sense of purpose. So let’s begin.
Tiny Step Outline
This tiny step is pure pleasure:
Walk around the museum and notice what draws your attention
Select one piece of art
Spend time looking at it for a long time - notice all possible details and everything about it
Take as many pictures of it
Note the name of the artist
Recreate the art (no supplies needed)
My Tiny Step Execution
I live in Chicago area. I consider myself lucky to be able to visit Art Institute Of Chicago. A friend was visiting from Canada and even thought temperatures in Chicago were -22C (-7F), we decided to spend the day admiring art.
At the museum, we visited a special exhibit Picasso: Drawing from Life. There, I encountered my ‘muse’.
Face of Marie-Therese by Picasso. It was created in 1928 - a lithograph in black on ivory Japanese paper.
Why Did I Choose This Piece
I was drawn to this piece of art for several different reasons
because it’s a portrait. This winter, I signed up for a portrait drawing class (see future tiny steps) and i’m now noticing portraits and taking interest in this type of art more than usual.
I liked the black and white composition and pencil work
Tiny Step - Recreate It
I had several ideas on how to take tiny step and create a big life from a simple visit to museum. The step I’m taking today is to sketch this portrait myself.
Portrait Sketch
Initial draft took only few minutes. It’s now something I can work on. Who knows what it’ll become - that’s the fun with art, it’s now going to take life of its own.
I know - I’m no Picasso :) But, does it really matter how ‘good’ our art is? What matters is that I’ve explored both the museum and my own creative side. I want to let my creative side come out more often. By using Tiny Steps, I’m encouraging my creativity and leading myself down creating a habit to express myself through art.
I also took few other photos for future portrait sessions. I have a stock of images that can inspire me to:
draw - using creativity thought visual art
write - journal about why I took this particular picture
talk - share my inspirations with friends and family
learn - research the artist and learn something new
Thanks for taking this tiny step with me towards a big life.
